Supermarket is Logic's only soundtrack. It was released on March 26, 2019, by Def Jam Recordings and Visionary Music Group. It is the companion piece for Logic's novel Supermarket.

Unfortunately, the album received negative reviews from critics, as most of them claimed that the soundtrack was a "business decision", though some of the critics said that they never actually read the book, and it is even more unlikely that the critics read the book whilst listening to the soundtrack.

The album peaked at number 56 on the Billboard 200.

The release date was announced on January 10, 2019.

CD and Vinyl[]

The back cover of the Supermarket CD features the album's tracklist in the same way that a supermarket product might list the contents/ingredients. The rest, the "Parental Advisory" sticker and album logo, are also arranged in the form of a traditional product sticker that one might find at a grocery store.

The vinyl for the soundtrack did not come in any variations or special editions like other versions of Logic's works and shared the simplicities of the covers for the paperback and hardcover versions of the novel.

The back cover of the vinyl for Supermarket contains a number of references/Easter eggs to the Supermarket novel. Above the tracklist is a banana, a clear reference to Frank's character, who, in the beginning of the novel, explains the great number of nutritional benefits that a banana has in one of his first conversations with Flynn. The pill below the tracklist addresses the second part of the novel, in which Flynn discovers that he has been reliving the months he worked at Muldoon's for over two years. It also could refer to Anne, who hands Flynn his pills every day.

The physical vinyls for Supermarket came in red with a yellow center (Sides A and B) and the opposite, yellow with a red center (Sides C and D). The first disc, which has a red outer disc and yellow center, pays homage to the paperback version of Supermarket, which featured a red cover with the title in yellow. The second disc, which has a yellow outer disc and red center pays homage to the hardcover for the novel, which was yellow with the title in red.

Reception[]

The album received generally negative reviews. Danny Schwartz, writing for Rolling Stone, described Supermarket as "uniquely bad", "bold yet bland", and a "suite of vapid love songs".[1] Reed Jackson of Pitchfork described it as "a painful journey across guitar music of the past five decades."[2] Calum Slingerland of Exclaim! negatively reviewed both the album and the accompanying novel, stating that "those who aren't card-carrying RattPack devotees will come away with little to chew on".[3]
